Custom Solutions for Kanaltunet
As Veidekke builds the Kanaltunet residential project in Stavanger, efficient logistics are the key to success. The project, which comprises 91 apartments spread across three buildings, has benefited greatly from early and close collaboration between Veidekke, Optimera, and Europrofil. By delivering pre-cut and apartment-specific steel packages directly to the construction site, significant gains have been achieved in terms of the schedule, cost efficiency, and the work environment.

Detailed planning from the start minimizes heavy lifting
Managing the supply of materials for such a large housing project requires a structured approach. By specifying the exact steel requirements for each individual apartment early in the process, Veidekke enables Europrofil to tailor its production. The profiles are cut to precise lengths, packaged, and sorted by apartment right at the factory.
“It’s incredibly inspiring to work with Veidekke. They plan early in the process and send us Excel spreadsheets detailing exactly how many types of steel profiles they need for each apartment. Europrofil enters this as an order, manufactures the products, packages them, and delivers them,” says Trond Epland of Optimera.
Once the materials arrive at the site, they are handled by crane trucks that lift the packages directly to the correct floor and into the specific apartment where they are to be installed. For Veidekke’s site manager, this is a huge relief.
“I have 30 people with me, and I’m really glad I don’t have to worry about hauling in and delivering materials,” says Lars Primstad, Site Manager at Veidekke.
Smart logistics lead to greater cost savings and faster assembly
For the installers on site, Europrofil’s apartment-packed systems mean they don’t have to spend time looking for the right materials or carrying heavy profiles between different rooms.
“We have it delivered directly to the apartments so that my colleagues can just walk in, take the steel they need, and install it right away—efficiently and quickly,” says Lars Primstad.
Everything needed for the interior walls is already in place in the correct rooms, ready to be installed immediately. The steel is also ergonomically designed for easy handling.
– The great thing about this is that it makes the project more cost-effective. As long as we don’t have to go get things and everything is right where it needs to be, my colleagues can work much faster.
